Dad Takes Disabled Daughter to Prom, Finds $10K Check for ‘Dad of the Year’ in Mailbox Later — Story of the Day

Seventeen-year-old Molly had just lost her mother Daisy and was left heartbroken. Since her parents’ divorce ten years earlier, she had barely known her father, Danny, a truck driver. All she ever heard from her mom was that he was a drunkard and a bad influence. But after Daisy’s funeral, Danny stepped back into Molly’s life and took her home with him.

At first, it wasn’t easy. Molly used a wheelchair and sometimes crutches because of a condition in her leg, and Danny had no experience caring for her. But his love showed in every small action. He gave her his own bedroom, bought her a new bed, learned to braid her hair by watching videos, and made sure she never felt alone. Unknown to Molly, Danny was working nights as a caregiver at a nursing home, in addition to his truck driving, to save money for her surgery.
